Revenge of Tyrants - Not a lucky adventure

This story is the continuation of that work
So you need, at first, to read the "Dragons destiny"

Year 2596, the height of the Acheronian Galactic War.

'I remember the past month. Protegian Storm. That's how they called this operation. The old scoundrel Gerald Mitronio commanded the Protegian dragoons. He was already quite old, although he was good as a commander. He preferred to sit in his estate on Knockfert-3 in his spare time. But when it came to attacking the Protego by the Acheronian League, he was right there. Together with the commander Gennady, he cooperated forces and defeated a huge horde. True, then the League mysteriously escaped on its own. General Alaxotl was captured and interrogated safely by the Elfurrian forces. They say they wanted to torture this unbearable Khazar, but the commander of the fleet, Ahmanet User-Kaf, refused extreme measures. Alaxotl, as it turned out, personally wanted to go over to the side of the Coalition. And he gave everything away. Gave us what we wanted to know.
Gerald wanted more than anything to find out exactly who Phantom 13 was. After all, he was responsible for the attack. He has long extended his influence throughout the Coalition. The question was who it really was. The Phantom is an elusive ghost, a player who willingly wages his campaign against us. As Mrs. Ahmanet User-Kaf said, Phantom-13 is our biggest enemy. After all, they say that it was he who created the League. Created with a certain Marfur-Nirari, whom I had already heard about during the fateful meeting on Tratorius. There were more and more mysteries, but almost no answers.
As a result of the interrogation, we found out that Alaxotl almost got close to the mystery of the mysterious "mole". Mole, as we learned, had strong connections with the central command of the Coalition. It was he who became the cause of this whole terrible and monstrous war. Phantom 13 was the clue. And the revelation could be shocking. Who started this conflict anyway? And who is responsible for so many years of bloodshed?

Alaxotl gave us one of those who could give answers. And it was kakontsi Tlaxcalan. Popotl Tlaxcalan mysteriously joined the League, and at the same time included his entire ancient race there. Popotl was a representative of the N-Sai race, whose history goes back thousands of years. Once they were friendly enough to all of us. But as soon as the Acheronian League began its ascent, the N-Sai immediately joined it. Tlaxcalan never gave a clear answer why he did it. The League explained that all this was due to "Elfurr aggression". But after all, if you think about it, Elfurr were not aggressors. They helped all the races of the galaxy to create that very Coalition. They also created an indestructible alliance, which was designed to withstand common threats from outside. And what came of it? Phantom 13 split the Alliance, and the Acheronian League emerged from it. Tlaxcalan was clearly forced into submission to the Phantom and all the new leadership of the League. Among the war criminals were the following persons - Olmec R-Llandris, who headed the association itself, a representative of the Unn-chorr race related to the Khazaars, then Fei Hoa, this insect-like and malicious Ho-Nari, who decided to agree with the accusations against Elfurr, then Popotl Tlaxcalan and Zindropa III of Khazaar. And of course, where is there without the rest of the congregation. So Tlaxcalan was just the one who just recently talked with Phantom-13. Our task was to kidnap kakontsi. And find out everything.
I thought a lot about this whole war. About the monstrous bloodshed that engulfed our entire galaxy "from top to bottom." War... The very word causes a unique horror. Imagine .... Everywhere pain, fear, confusion, bitterness. And blood is shed. You can't even go out into the street without a weapon.... Earthlings say that according to their calendar, the war began in 2594. But I think it all started when I met Mauna. 89th year, according to the reckoning of the Earth Alliance. I think I told you what happened on Tratorius 4 then. And after that fateful meeting... After the betrayal of Tlalon, I finally realized that something terrible had indeed awakened. And all this, of course, led to what we see now, in front of us. To a monstrous war that brought us only pain and suffering. If Phantom 13 is really responsible for this, and if Tlaxcalan knows him well, it's our duty to end this as soon as possible.
Only here we did not succeed. More precisely, it worked out, but not quite.

I wanted to tell you about how we almost sewed this bastard Phantom. As you know, "slightly" does not count. But this attempt was forever remembered for me and all my comrades in arms. This case happened after the interrogation of Alaxotl. Gerald, no matter how much he wanted to participate in the investigation, suddenly fell ill, and therefore the Draconid team had to do it. Then ex-president Fernand called me as usual. Although she no longer headed the Security Council, her influence on the navy and army was unshakable. Fernand summoned me to Fiona- 2, where she clearly informed me of my appointment as Special Operations Commander. "You should go to Horshed Prime," her tired voice was heard, "Tlaxcalan will fly there with an escort. Elfurr Command believes that the Phantom may be there. It is advisable if you take Tlaxcalan alive. But beware of his soldiers." "Let's try to take two," I replied confidently. But Fernand warned me not to get my hopes up. "It would be nice if at least one fell into our hands," she said quite clearly, "You will be assisted by privateers. We bribed them, so they are their own guys. Follow any orders of their leader." But I knew perfectly well that she did not deny the other outcome of the operation. And of course, if the Phantom came to us, it would be a real salvation.
And now it's time to go to Horshed .... That one is still a hole, not far from the Klalzotl system. And so far from home.... But there was nothing to do. I saluted Fernand and decided to execute the order perfectly well. The next day, with my faithful adjutants, I flew to the Khorsched system. Even under the former kakontsi, this system was famous for the gigantic number of bazaars. Many noble merchants, businessmen and industrialists of the N-Sai race organized markets almost on asteroids. The world has never seen such a quantity of goods .... I was in this system even before the war. But to my great regret, there were too many smugglers and thieves with whom I had the misfortune to meet and even become their friend. It just so happened... Saved one of the privateers' life... His robot was infected with some unknown virus and tried to kill him... And I arrived quickly and dumped the tin. The privateer said that he would not forget the century, and immediately introduced me to his associates. And so this strange friendship began. Although I never complained about pirates. Fortunately, this one was a privateer, and all his pirate past in the service of the Turretless Clan was left behind.
The Artandir intelligence quickly set everything up. I was on my way to Horshed as head of the 'Bisotl' company. They came up with a story, for this a lot of effort is not needed. Our group was supposedly going to cooperate with representatives of Tlaxcalan and transmit information about all trade routes of the Coalition in space.

When I arrived at Horshed, already being director of the Bisotl, local privateers immediately rushed to see me. They informed me that they were all under Artandir now. Intelligence took care to quickly lure the robbers to the side of the republic. Oh, how Admiral Salerno was not happy about this, who fought with pirates all his life. But in this case, there was nothing he could do.
On the very first day of my arrival on the planet, I was immediately connected with the head of the privateer clans. They did it very quickly.... I didn't even have time to inspect my new apartments, when these guys came to visit me and connected me with their leader. I still remember that moment... We had dinner with old friends in a luxurious villa, and then my old friend took out a miniature device and put it on the table. In less than a second, a hefty physiognomy of some strange guy jumped out in front of everyone, resembling a person only remotely. His name was Marina`Kataa. A Nicomedian, like Tlalon. It was immediately clear that he was a psionic. Marina was bribed by Artandir to help the Republic reach Tlaxcalan. And since Popotl was more than indebted to Marina, he readily agreed. "I was told a lot about you," said Marina's hologram, which spread throughout the hall, "My friend considers you a truly worthy draconian." My friend from the privateers nodded his head, confirming the veracity of the boss's words. "But you're in great danger." Danger.... I naturally knew that I was in danger. After all, I work for the Artandir security service, no matter what. "We've figured something out too," Marina's voice came from the holo-projection, "The same Phantom we talked about is going to visit Horshed. We got that data from our sources at Tlaxcalan." "Excuse me, do you know who the phantom really is?" - I immediately asked, not understanding his hints. The face of the hologram immediately turned pale and lit up with some strange and unnatural horror. "He is a psionic... Definitely, but we don't know who exactly," replied Marina, "A sorcerer from a civilization unknown to us. He is not a Nicomede or a draconian. He is also not a man.... We have not yet found out who "He... But he's a very powerful person. This guy has a serious influence on Tlaxcalan. Popotl joined the League at his instigation. And this Phantom is the one who is guilty of starting the war." Then I didn’t really finish anything yet ..... When Marina confirmed that the Phantom was the hero of the occasion and also the most powerful psionicist, at first it seemed to me that I just went over cognac. Especially when the Nickomedian told me about the crimes of the Phantom, which I did not even know about. When I talked about this with Fernand, and when I listened to Alaxotl, it seemed to me that the Phantom was not so dangerous, and there was one percent of what he was just a pawn. But it was not there.
"Phantom-13 is connected to the top leadership of the League," Marina told me, "Obviously, he began to act a long time ago. Back when the League was not. We received data about his connections with the Khazaar leader Zindropa and a certain Kossatian named Ser` Kiraani". I immediately remembered Tratorius-4. Zindropa was expelled from his ranks by the clan of Mauna, known by the name of Wilus. So that's why Mauna left them and started raiding! This Khazaar idiot knew that Zindropa III was working for the Phantom. Absolutely everything was connected with the Phantom. Nothing less than a whole league.

"Phantom 13 is experimenting with the forbidden," the Nicomedian continued to broadcast through holo-projection, "He intends to make the League rule over the entire galaxy. In the Coalition, he provokes a total split. But this is not terrible, but the fact that he is connected with by some forces we prefer not to talk about."
Then the hologram began showing evidence. I saw the terrible crimes that this creature did in his laboratories. It turned out that the Phantom is not only a provocateur and the highest criminal of the League, but also a real sadist. Now it is clear why the League was accused of genocide on several worlds.... It was all true, after all. He surrounded himself with real maniacs and sorcerers like him... And the worst thing was that almost the entire Council of the League supported him. Almost all the governors and commandants stood entirely for him... Moreover, this Phantom worked with forbidden technologies, creating some strange and unknown inventions. Rumors also leaked about possible work with technologies that were tens of thousands of years old. Clones, nanobots, drones capable of subduing the dead... What I saw almost made me lose my mind. I then pretty much drank cognac, but having seen these terrible pictures, I immediately sobered up. Alcohol did not remain in the brain at all .... "So it's the head of everything?" - then my question followed, "Does this mean ... He planned everything?". "He is the cause of everything," Marina replied, "That's why even bastards like us are now fighting on the side of the Coalition. Of course, we are not angels either ... But we don't fight for the Darkness. And we don't fight for such horrors "We're getting there. Experiments with the dead are inhumane. In three days, Colonel Hellmuth, high military commissar of Horsched, will meet here with Tlaxcalan and Phantom-13. We need to try to take Tlaxcalan alive, and then Phantom. If we do this, there is a possibility that the criminal regime of the League will immediately fall. And then my guys will invade here and help everyone restore legitimate power." In terms of Marina, I liked almost everything ... Except for the invasion of his guys. Honestly, I had no idea how a pack of former pirates and mercenaries would be able to restore order on Horshed Prime .... But then I didn’t care anymore. If such beasts were at the head of the League, they should have been eliminated immediately. The coalition will act too slowly... But Marina seemed to me the most effective. After all, he did not hesitate, but acted quickly ..... Quickly and decisively!
For the townsfolk, I am a local businessman, moreover, with great influence. Artandir intelligence has already downloaded all the necessary passwords and took control of the satellites, which means that I already have all the data. The Nicomedian explained that his loyal forces were in the main city of Horsed. They will provoke the people to revolt immediately after the meeting. He also had a friendship with the local rebels, and they promised him support against such freaks as Popotl. When the rebellion breaks out, it will be much easier to finish off the reptiles than in full order. That's what we decided on. I have given full consent to cooperate with the marque clans. Marina assured that everything is under full control. No surveillance or information leakage.
At night, our guys broke into the residence of the city commandant. Luckily, he was of my kind. A hefty cossatti who wore almost the same armor as me. The residence was captured pretty quickly. Whom we need, we eliminated. The guards were mostly cybernetic, so there were no problems with them either. In less than ten minutes, I was dressed as the murdered commandant. I fully donned his armor and put on all the insignia. The voice impersonator allowed me to copy the Kossatian's voice. Now I was required to secretly lead Marina's supporters into the escort guard and arm them with grenades, and at the same time send part of the troops from the city to different places ... Preferably to those regions where it would be relatively calm. This is necessary so that there are no problems with the reinforcements of government forces during the uprising. Plus, take care of the snipers on the roofs of buildings, so that they are loyal to us, and not to the enemy. That meeting was very close.

So ... The plan was drawn up clearly and clearly. Pirates and mercenaries soon scattered to their positions. We started on our starships and in a few moments found ourselves in the nearest ring of asteroids to keep an eye on the scoundrels. And in the evening of the same day, Colonel Srovik himself came to my residence. My disguise was top notch, and this white-skinned and fat hecatoncheir sniffed out nothing. He arrived accompanied by four n-sai guardsmen from the Kakonzi Royal Guard, distinguished by crested helmets and thick plated armor. They followed him wherever he was ... And perhaps even to the toilet, if required. Helmut looked at my new abode for a long time, as if seeing it for the first time... And then he started talking. "I'm glad that you were assigned here... To Horshed," his sonorous voice followed, "By the way... Very soon we will be visited by one important guest from N-Saiakan.... His Magnificence Popotl Tlaxcalan, permanent and unshakable Kakontsi of N-Sai. I think you know him." I immediately jumped when I heard those words. But I was not allowed to show that I knew the truth. "Tlaxcalan?" I asked with feigned amazement, "I thought that His Majesty had more important things to do." "No... He and Phantom 13 and I decided to discuss another campaign against the insufferable Coalition," said Hellmuth with a sly smile. And this is where I got even uglier. The commandant obviously knew about the Phantom, and I was just in the role of commandant. Oh, and it was not easy for me to withstand the gaze of this obese hekatoncheir. “Your task is to restore order,” Srovik’s words were soon heard, “They say that the city is full of bandits, bribed by the Coalition ... Yes, dissatisfied with the new government. And we don’t need rebellions, right? All these traitors should be found and liquidated. Just as soon as possible." Hellmuth knew perfectly well what the true purpose of this whole campaign was. I had to dutifully agree with him. Then he wanted to have a good dinner ... And I just did not dare to refuse him. Otherwise, the accompanying guards would have butchered me like a calf.
The next day I had to go about my commandant duties, not without the help of the Artandir intelligence and my allies from among the privateers. Whatever happened to me! Starting from supply and logistics, ending with personal control over the cantonment of the army. The whole day I spent time in the operational headquarters, almost never leaving the endless screens for a minute. Even when I needed to go somewhere, I carried a huge tablet with me, through which my own advisory body, appointed by the League authorities, contacted me. The "encoder" always rumbled in the ear hole. I received this device from privateers allied to the republic. So they could give me commands in Old Draconian language. Everything was done to ensure that our enemies did not sniff out anything.

At night, we often talked with Fernand. She checked how effectively we infiltrated the Horshed government, and how we would proceed. Sometimes I sacrificed many hours of sleep in order to help the Republic penetrate deeper and deeper into the system of the controlled planet. In the next two days before the arrival, somehow, some kind of horror arose ... A nightmare in terms of logistics and planning. It was necessary to organize everything carefully, to ensure the safety of this n-sai... Although, judging by his sorcerous power, there is no threat to him. Marina had as many as two agents in the local leadership who were recently recruited. You will all be pretty surprised, but they were n-sai. They were literally stuck. On the one hand, the new government was pressing, and on the other, already Marina and his privateers. But they preferred Marina, since this guy is hardly a supervillain here. With the help of loyal allies, we organized and arranged everything. The plan was fully prepared and worked out. I had to stay up half the night before Popotl's arrival in order to carefully work everything out again. So .... I quickly replaced the guards. I missed a lot of Marina's agents in all cities ... I sent troops over long distances the day before. Contacted our supporters in space fortresses in orbit. Srovik didn't even feel that a storm was approaching.... He was so delighted with the arrival of Popotl that he couldn't control himself. But I partly understood it. Thought I'd have some fun before I die. They didn't have long to go anyway.

Soon X-Day came. Popotl informed the Control Point of his arrival. He flew not alone, but with a whole horde of accompanying shuttles. It was said that a certain special agent from the Commissariat of the League was coming to Horshed with him. But his name was not revealed. I then realized that it was about the Phantom-13. By the middle of the day, the Tlaxcalan shuttle had successfully landed at the local spaceport. Then he was transplanted into luxury cars, in which they wanted to deliver him straight to the Government Palace. It was there that we prepared a trap for him. Snipers were already sitting on the roofs of buildings and waiting in the wings, and the palace guard was completely replaced. Most of the troops left the city, giving the rebels the opportunity to start riots. Before the column of cars had time to drive along Olmek R-Llandris Street, the angry crowds of local people were already throwing out. Entire armies of enraged residents moved onto the pavement. Marina's agents immediately began arming them with whatever they could find. Some were even given beam rifles, quickly brought here by smugglers. There was a storm in the streets. The security forces could not do anything ... And the defenders of the law themselves were already rather tired of all this despotism. Some of the police officers did not even resist, but dutifully joined the rebels. Almost everything was used ... And stones and clubs and stools and even stationery. Then there were shots and grenade explosions. Marina's agents drove the crowd along almost all city streets. Helmut Srovik and I stood at the very gates of the palace, where the murder was supposed to happen. Hellmuth was very nervous... His communicator was literally bursting with thousands of messages about mass uprisings all over the planet. "Urgently give a signal to the troops!" - shouted the colonel in my direction, "Are you the commandant or what?! You have to provide security!" "I am doing everything in my power, Mr. Commissar," I replied then, and at the same time I lied, "Do you really think that I will let you down?" We would have continued to shout to each other, but in the distance a column of cars appeared along with the hero of the occasion. I immediately realized that the cherished hour had come. The cars were already approaching the palace.... And our snipers and Marina's agents had long been preparing to take sweet revenge... To put an end to this geek and his hangers-on forever. I completely forgot about any obedience and quickly yelled into the communicator. "Fire!" - heard my cry across the street, "Fire in the name of the Coalition!". Srovik immediately looked in my direction. His gut was literally torn from terrible rage. He understood everything then. "Oh you bastard!" - the colonel exclaimed with terrible anger, "You are a traitor to your motherland! A dirty saboteur!" Without thinking twice, he pulled out a huge broadsword from its scabbard and rushed at me. But I was ready for such an outcome and in the blink of an eye I pulled out a gun. I did not hesitate and shot at Srovik several times. I don’t know if I managed to kill this huge carcass .. But the fact that I seriously injured him is for sure. Helmut collapsed onto the pavement, bleeding in streams. His loyal defenders looked at me unfriendly and were about to cut me apart.... However, Marina's agents arrived in time and quickly riddled the villains with ray guns. Then it was the turn for Tlaxcalan himself. The snipers began firing furiously at the approaching car convoy. Drones, launched into the air the day before, unleashed the full power of technology on our enemies. The dummy bodyguards opened fire on the cars, just like their brothers on the roof. Everything around danced and spun in a monstrous waltz of death. But Marina did not act according to plan at all. There was no order to destroy Tlaxcalan. We had to take him alive. But the Nicomedian quickly changed the whole plan of the operation.

Popotl's car took off into the air. It was torn into a thousand pieces, and our whole idea turned into a fiasco. Kakonzi was dead, and with him the entire N-Sai elite. Then something happened that I still can't forget. This phenomenon made us all shudder.
One of the shell-damaged vehicles suddenly took off into the air and headed straight for the sniper positions. I saw it with my own eyes, I swear. Then the second one did the same. Fragments of the crumpled cars began to fly through the air and destroy .... our own snipers. It all happened so fast that I could hardly believe what I saw. Very soon ... a monstrous column of fire appeared on the street. Not even a moment passed before he spewed something outlined out of himself. Something that resembled an upright-walking creature in silhouette.
I managed to see this unknown creature. It was entirely clad in heavy armor. His face was covered by a thick humanoid mask. The eyes, however, are not visible. Only bright red eyepieces. It was this guy that I saw in the pictures of Marina. It was he. Phantom-13. The same sorcerer who leads the League. It was he who staged one of the most monstrous and terrible wars in the history of the galaxy. But if we haven't taken Popotl, then at least we'll destroy the Phantom. Let's take this bastard dead or alive.
"It's a Phantom!" I growled at the top of my voice, "Destroy him!" Marina's accomplices began to fire again in the direction of the defeated cortege. But no matter how much they fired at the mysterious figure, it was useless. .
"I see you, Ser'Naveh," came an eerie guttural voice in my head. This creature used psionic powers to send me a message. Then the cruel creature in armor lit up with a bright flame. It turned into a fiery sphere, monstrous in its power and deadly.
With every second, the flames grew larger and larger. I understood perfectly well that Phantom-13 uses sorcery.... Not only did he not die, but he was not even injured. That's when I realized... that time is running out. I quickly hurried towards the fortress, the gates of which were wide open. "Back to everyone! Behind the gates!" - my cry was heard throughout the street. Artandir's privateers and scouts followed me, knowing that the pillar of flame was invulnerable. However, as soon as we approached the gate, it began to crack. With breakneck speed, the entire fortress wall protecting the palace began to crumble into chips. Even the pavement under our feet could not stand it and was torn, like old clothes. I have never been so afraid of my own death... as in that moment. At that moment, I didn't know what to do.... Everything was going so perfectly. A planning meeting, an uprising, an assassination attempt, explosions .... Everything had to happen in a matter of seconds. But the Phantom wasn't just an agent plotting state crimes... He was a powerful alien sorcerer whose origins we didn't know at all. Everything around me began to crumble like a house of cards. But I was not from the timid, but continued to move. I miraculously jumped over the almost crumbling gates of the wall. All I thought about then... There was salvation. After all, if I had died at that moment, I would have only done worse... But I could have done much more if I had survived. I already mentally made plans for further resistance to this criminal League and its leaders... Just to survive!
I myself do not understand how I still managed to get to the starship, which took up a position on the roof of the palace. God... I finally made it to this roof... How? How?... I don't remember at all... After all, I was ruled by fear... And he can be a reliable ally in some cases. Marina's accomplices also succumbed to this very fear of the unknown. But those are less to me, the panic did not break them and did not force them to do crazy things. They kept themselves young. All these guys also successfully reached the shuttle. We quickly took off and in a few moments we were flying through the boundless outer space. I didn't even look back... I didn't look out the windows at all. I only heard the quivering speeches of my comrades-in-arms around. They said that that fiery column expanded and covered the entire capital. Even from space, one could see that terrible flame devouring the great city. Phantom has done its job....

"I see you, Ser'Naveh," said that eerie voice in my head again, "I know you're there." I turned around quickly. I was still on the ship, on my ship, to my great happiness. There was no one on it, except for associates from the privateers of Marina and the Artandir security. But the voice continued. "What do you want," I decided to ask the mysterious enemy who had invaded my mind, "Why are you doing this?" "The galaxy is changing," - the answer followed immediately, "Everything is changing. This whole world is very often collapsing forms. All this is done only for the sake of the universe itself." "Then why are you destroying everything around you?" - I immediately asked, as if by inertia. There was a minute pause. For a moment it seemed to me that the Phantom would not answer. But then he still broke the silence. "Because it is Their will," the psionicist told me, "The Will of the Gods." Then my head hurt so much that I fell into oblivion. They pumped me out only upon arrival at Fiona.
Fernand didn't like our report too much. We failed the operation. They didn't get the success they deserved. No doubt we have succeeded in destroying Popotl Tlaxcalan and depriving the League of one of its leaders. But the main thing - we missed. Phantom 13 was still at large. After I returned to Fiona, I had a difficult meeting with the elfurr. The Elfurrian commander Ahmanet seemed to demand victory from me. She was not very happy with the results. "So you missed the Phantom," this beautiful maiden told me with regret, "He beat you." "So far," I replied to the elfurr maiden, "But this does not mean that we will always lose." Fernand, standing next to me, on the contrary, praised me. She stated that I had rescued Artandir more than once and rescued his citizens, told about my great merits. I have long felt that Asinius feels something for me. She has always protected me. For many years I served Artandir, and always became the "best of the best" for Fernand. But unfortunately, I was a draconian. And she... is a Human. And this created difficulties. But I still appreciated her intercession. And I continue to appreciate.
“Try not to fail the operation next time,” Ahmanet User-Kuff said to me, “Phantom must die. If everything you said is true, he is responsible for creating the League and for starting the war.” "That's right," Fernand answered for me, "And he won't fail it. Don't even doubt it."
I didn't tell anyone about my contact with the Phantom. He didn't say a word about how he entered my mind. The wrong questions would start right away. Otherwise, they would have been sent to the Elfurr Inquisitors.
I was thinking about telling my old friend... No, not Gerald, but agent Ishken Derh. He also took part in the Protegian operation, like Gerald. But I don't know if it's worth it.... It's a big responsibility. Although no, for now this mystery will remain in my mind. And nowhere else.
But inwardly I swore to myself that I would find the Phantom. We will meet with him again. And more than once. I'm feeling it. We will meet, no doubt. And then.... And then there will be no mercy.'
