The chaos horse marauder search ui script is wrong, to change go into:
WHTW
data
descr_model_battle

and then change:

WHTW/whtw/data/model_units/textures/WHTW_CHAOS_HORSE_MARAUDER.TGA

Delete the second whtw, so it reads:

WHTW/data/model_units/textures/WHTW_CHAOS_HORSE_MARAUDER.TGA

Hello, i am enjoying this mod with a steam version of Rome gold and i was wondering if the chaos horsemen problem persists on my version? Ive had a look for the second chaos file to no avail and I cant seem to open the original with any program. COuld someone show me the light please?

You don't actually need to find the image files - what this guide is asking you to do is fine descr_model_battle.text (a normal text file) and you should be able to edit the path so it points to the right file, as discussed in the first post. Does that help?

Hello, I've been playing the mod for a day now. Absolutely love it so far. But everytime I play a battle that has marauder horsemen in it, the game just shuts itself off. No error message or anything. I followed the steps here, but it seems my scripts are different from the ones posted above. In my file it looks like this:

First suggestion: try capitalising the letters TGA, the whole thing is case sensitive.

No, that doesn't work. None of the "tga's" in the document are capitalized, yet the marauders are the only units that cause any problems.

Hm. Are you sure it's just the marauder horsemen causing the issue & you can play other battles with Chaos OK? That DMB entry looks OK to me...

If you haven't tried using the -show_err command line in your game start shortcut, do that as well and hopefully it'll give you a diagnosis of the problem :)

Yeah, it's the marauder horsemen. I just tried all chaos units except for the horsemen and it works just fine. It may be important to know that I'm using the steam version of RTW.

As a courtesy to kwaaieke and other readers, I've added the spoiler tags myself. It's probably not obvious to new members that they have to go around the text in the post, nor that they are added using the button with the "radioactive" symbol (circle divided into six segments, alternately yellow and black).

I've also rebuilt the file from kwaaieke's posts. I attempted to attach it, using the "Attachments and other options" feature below the main posting window. However, it's 169kB and the stated maximum size for an individual attachment is 128kB, so I've had to split the file and attach the sections.

Found the problem (I think)! :D

OK, it's not the rider, it's the horse.

Go into DMB, find the entry for "horse_light".

You'll notice that on the "gauls" line it has "WHTW/whtw/data" whereas all the others have just "whtw/data". Fix that and they should work. :)

i did the fix, and it still crashes when i try to enter battle, i even tried to look for light_horse but there seems to be no problem there

Can you get chaos battles working with other units? Is it definitely just the horsemen that are causing you the problem?

I just entered battle as chaos, and there were 0 marauder horsemenn, and the game still crashed, i think is maybe has something to do with the general, as i have fought chaos "brigands" with no issues. Units i don't know if caused the crash include Marauders and Chaos Warrios

I'm sorry: we may not be able to do much about this for a couple of weeks. Jubal is on holiday until 10 August, and he might be the only person who understand the mod well enough to help.

In the meantime, it would probably help him if you could try out the various different units, first one by one on their own, and then perhaps in all the combinations, so that we can see exactly which units or combinations cause the crashes.

There was a problem with the Chaos_General model. I did a fix that turns all chaos generals to Chaos_lesser_general but i don't know how to fix the issue with the actual model. Even tho this thread does NOT include other bugs, can i report here that the Nurgle temple build chain is kind of broken as the plaguemound building requires a level 4 town, but chaos can only upgrade their towns to level 3, is this intentional to limit plaguemound to conquered cities or...?

Um, not sure. Check the filenames and check all the capitalisation is correct first, I'd say, including of the filename endings. And then check that the model linkage in the generals file is correct.

Right, starting list of things to check:
- Does this only happen in custom battle, only in campaign, or both?
- Does this happen in custom battle when you avoid using marauder horsemen?

There basically seem to be two problems - firstly, the chaos marauder horsemen are bugged, secondly, the chaos generals (but not captains) have a problem (which I'm currently recommending people fix by making the general model the same as the lesser general model).

OK, Yes, both campaign and custom battles don't seem to be working, anything other than the horsemen work fine, but instead of closing down without warning like I have seen others report, it does come up with windows error scanner (the "windows is scanning for problems thing).

Thanks for your help, i didn't think you would reply so quickly :)

Edit- Now I think there is a problem with orks and goblins as well :P I'll have a look round the code myself for a bit, see if there is anything obvious

Huh, definitely not had O&G problems reported with the main build...

Whether it CTDs with no error or has the windows scanner is just a difference of OS/build - it's the same thing I think.
