General Gaming - The Arcade / Re: Reimplementations and "HD" remakes

The remastered Homeworld games are looking incredibly shiny. They should play much as the originals.

I only managed to play a few missions of the first one when they were released because issues accessing an appropriate PC, but I enjoyed it very much. Sadly, that is still the case, my current machine won't come within spitting distance of making the remasters look at their best.

With the Falcon 9 soft landing there seem to be two main challenges:

  • Getting it in the right place (with a very small margin of error, the barges aren't that huge)
  • Getting it to stay upright

To my (very uneducated in this field) mind, the first bit seems much harder to achieve (not that I am claiming the upright bit is easy of course). Yet with both attempts so far, it has been spot on target. It is very impressive technically, and if the stages can genuinely be reused safely, it is very cool indeed.

My stash at work currently consists of Assam, Lapsang souchong, and Darjeeling. They are currently performing admirably as part of my eat less rubbish at work campaign (astringent fluids are good as appetite suppressants).

Not forgetting of course to keep your own citizens supplied and somehow managing to keep suitable stock levels in your warehouses, granaries, and markets.

I'm feeling the urge to play again.

I played a lot of C3 and a bit of Pharaoh back in the day; C3 in particular was one of my favourite games at the time. I enjoyed the challenges of putting a working economy together, even on the maps with limited high value resources. A well oiled city felt a great achievement.

Lethis looks to be an interesting work in progress. the team openly admit they are heavily influenced by the Impressions Games series (it shows), and the steampunk setting looks fun.

Hello all,

Like BrokenIronSights, I've come here by way of the RTW mod post on RPS. I've had a bit of a poke around and it looks like I might have a bit in common with this place and you fine people.

My interests are wide ranging, and there isn't much I'm not prepared to at least try. Mainly at the moment I spend my spare time on PC gaming, reading, music, and board games. When I were a lad, my Father was heavily into historical tabletop gaming, and although I never carried the hobby on past my youth, I've maintained an interest in history (amongst many other things). I play a bit of cricket in the summer and I used to be a qualified trampolining coach and judge.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

A quick question if I may? I know every forum has its own culture; what is the etiquette on thread necros here? Would I be being irritating if I dragged old stuff up from the depths if I had something (useful) to add?
