General Chatter - The Boozer / Deadliest Warrior
« on: January 27, 2011, 03:04:37 AM »
Hey everyone.

Wasn't sure whether this should be here or in the Conservatoire so I thought I'd err on the side of caution.

Anyone here watch this show?  Disagree with some of the results?

Questions and Suggestions - The High Court / Warhammer
« on: January 23, 2011, 04:00:53 AM »
Hi everyone,

As an avid Warhammer player, I was wondering, how would people feel about a Warhammer Board?  I mean something as big as the Total War and M&B sections.  I think the fact that its not exactly big and active is sending people away, and if it were bigger it might get more activity. I've tried to recruit people from Warseer, and I'm hoping that they will boost the popularity in this section.

So what do people think?

M&B Mods - The Explorer's Society / Hi All
« on: January 22, 2011, 07:28:24 PM »
Just thought I'd post something here to anounce my coming as M&B Admin.  I'd like to acknowledge my predecessor, BoyNinja, as he did an excellent job during his tenure.

Ok now this thread is to bring stuff to my attention.  If you have suggestions regarding the M&B board, go right ahead and post here.  For that matter, don't be shy. :D  If you have a mod, let me know and I'll create a sub-forum for you so you can get some more publicity.

I hope that my tenure here will be as enjoyable for you as it will be for me.

Extended Factions / The Art Gallery
« on: January 20, 2011, 07:37:51 PM »
EDIT* I've had to redo this post so I figured I'd add some of the other stuff that you guys hadn't seen yet.

The original Samurai. This may in fact date from before Extended Factions really began.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The concept of a Vorrok Noble Swordsmen. They've changed a bit.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The original banner ideas for Dia151.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Halrondian Gallowglass.  In MP, a possible Infantry choice for Halrond.  In SP branches from the Kern with the Muire.  May be equipped with a large two handed Sparth axe as well.  EDIT* As you can see, they've changed a lot.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Halrondian Hobelar.  In MP, the Halrond Cavalry.  In SP the upgrade of a Ridire.  One of the most dangerous light cavalry units in the world.  Developed for use against the heavy Knights of Swadia.  EDIT* They've also changed a lot.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Halrond Muire.  Will probably change in appearance.  EDIT* As it happened, they did. Pretty substantially.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Halrond Master Archer.  Equipped with the most powerful bows in the world.  Slightly inaccurate due to the sheer power of their bows.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A poor Lyonessian Almughavar.  Poor because most can afford Round Shields.  As Light Infantry they are unequalled.  In MP one of the ranged choices for Lyonesse.  EDIT* Surprisingly these guys have changed a fair bit too. Not too much though.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Lyonessian Crossbowmen.  They cannot match the sheer power of the Rhodok Arbalestiers but nontheless, their bolts are fully capable of punching through armour.  EDIT* They're blue now and actually have a Spanish name. :P
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Lyonessian Lancer.  As Heavy Cavalry they are faster than most.  However they hit harder than Light Cavalry.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Lyonesse Rodelero.  Decent Heavy Infantry, the Lyonessian Espadas are faster than most comparable swords.  In SP they branch from the Infantry along with the Coseletes.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Nihon Hatamoto.  The Nihon have never really grasped horseborne combat.  On the other hand, when dismounted the Hatamoto tend to kick the armadillo out of people.  In MP they form NIhon's Cavalry.  In SP they upgrade from Samurai along with Elite Samurai.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Nihon Samurai.  The speed of the Samurai's two handed katana makes them formidable opponents.  However their lack of shields costs them dearly against archers.  EDIT* These guys have actually changed heaps. For instance, the Mantis Clan Samurai no longer wield katanas...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Nihon Yumi Archer.  Blessed with uncanny accuracy, Yumi archers are a powerful long range force. EDIT* Funnily enough, these guys now actually have a yumi rather than the war bow they had when this screen was taken. :P
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A Vorrok Archer.  As far as Archers go, the ones used by the Vorroks are nnothing special, intended only to cover the Noble Swordsmen as they charge.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Vorrok Border Reivers are fast Cavalry.  Armed with a collection of throwing weapons, Border Reivers can be expected to hunt the foe down mercilessly.  On the other hand, their lack of significant armour means they will likely not last in prolonged combat.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And of course the Vorrok Noble Swordsman.  The highest tiered unit the Vorroks have access to, they are monsters in close combat.  EDIT* These guys have probably changed the least of all the original units. In fact, I can't think of anything that has changed since then.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dia151's interpretation of the Kingdom banners.  I feel as if he's done a rather nice job.  ;)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

EDIT* So that's it for this teary eyes trip down memory lane. Onto the next...

Extended Factions / Background
« on: January 20, 2011, 07:05:21 PM »
This is a historical document by one Dyhern Everhardt, scholar in his majesties glourious Swadian Empire.

Introduction:
It is the 1257 Common Era, and all of Calradia is slowly building up to unrestrained war. The peace that the people of the land enjoyed has been shattered by the warlike interests of the Lords of the realm. Calradia is not well.

Quick Note on Dates:
All dates mentioned herewith are approximate, and are to the best of my knowledge correct. Dates are given according to the Imperial Calendar and as such are measured with the first year of Dok Calradian rule as the Year 1.

On the Ancient Peoples of Calradia:
The Dok Tribes: The Dok tribes were the original inhabitants of Calradia (Even to scholars of the language spoken by the Dok Tribes, the meaning of the name of our country is unclear). Even today their dominion spreads from what is now the Rhodok Republic, all the way to frozen lands of Vorrok Clans. The Dok tribes were renowned for their ferocity in battle and were the first to bend animals to their will. The primitive, thundering charges of the Dok tribes heralded the fall of many primordial clans. Those who did not join them died. At their peak, Dok lands encompassed all of Calradia, from the great Southern Desert all the way to the Northern Coasts. To this day, the descendents of these tribes still hold the greater part of their ancestral lands.

The Yamato: The Yamato (Yamatonese for “Highlanders”) were an ancient confederation of tribes that came from the fabled lands to the south of Dok held Calradia in the year 62 Common Era. Supposedly their name stems from their mountainous homeland, and indeed, all major pushes for land have always been in the direction of the major mountain ranges in Calradia, namely the Bear’s Labyrinth in the West and the Sentinels and the Steppe Ranges in the North. This can only be truly explained by an ingrained nature in these people to seek out a place that is familiar to them. In the current era, Yamato blood still flows in those of Khergit or Nihon ancestry.

The Archmaenir: The Archmaenir (It is unknown what the Archamenir called themselves however Archmaenir means “Desert Wraiths” in Old Dok. It is presumed this refers to their uncanny ability to simply rise up and disappear into the sands of their homeland) were a single, strong and yet nomadic tribe, who lived in the great Southern Desert. In the year 389 Common Era, they rose up from the Dok held Southern Desert and staked their claim on the land. Unwilling to shed blood over such infertile land, the Dok tribes elected to allow the Archmaenir to keep it.

The Drakon: The Drakon are the newest of the people of Calradia. Arriving in their massive, iron-bound Longships, the Drakon quickly took the Northern Coasts for themselves in the year 627. Coming from a race who is experienced in taking other people’s land, the Drakon made ready to repel the inevitable Dok counter-attack. The two armies met in the shadow of the walls Werblin (“Walled Citadel” in Old Dok), modern day Wercheg. The toll of lives on both sides was horrific but in the end the Dok cavalry charge couldn’t break through the determined Drakon shieldwall and the Dok army retreated from the field and ceded the lands north of present day Curaw to the Drakon.

Extended Factions / The Portal to Another Realm
« on: January 20, 2011, 07:02:47 PM »
Most of you know me.  I've been here since the last day of 2010 and have been climbing up the ranks to eventual world dominati- ahem. Sorry um, M&B Moderatorship hopefully. ;)

I've enver really done all that much.  Just a little bit of tweaking for personal reasons.  Until recently I couldn't texture, still can't really model, can't make new maps because Thorgrim's Map Editor won't open and I'm only an indifferent coder, but I am offering this to the M&B Modding community in the hopes that one day I may be able to release something that can indeed be called a proper mod.

Extended Factions is just a tweaked Native. 4 New Factions for the moment, lots of cool new items from various OSP's and occasionally some new stuff.  In reality its hard to call this anything other than a balancing test I suppose, and an attempt to introduce some pretty cool factions.

NEW PROGRESS LIST:
Implemented new factions: 15 factions more or less working in SP with another 5 completely implemented in MP.
New Towns: Pretty much complete.
New Castles: Are in the process of being done.
New Villages: Are in the process of being done. On the plus side, all of these new locations are named, either seriously or with some rare inside jokes that generally will go unnoticed unless you speak the language. Oh, except for Daimyo Suzuki of the Nihon Shogunate. That was just me being silly.
New Lords: 100%
New Ladies: 100%
Troop trees: 100%
Outfitting Troops: Probably about 70%. MP troops are complete, SP troops... some are copies of the Swadians....   I'm working on it.
Reinforcements and all that stuff: Done
New Items: 100% I think.  Many new items are already included, mainly from OSP packs.  The Quetzl Tribes need new helmets.  On the other hand, thanks to Negro of Serbia, Zimke Zvoljni and Rigadoon, we're getting there.
Recolour Existing Factions: 100%
New troops for existing factions: 100% but I will gladly take suggestions from others if they wish for a certain troop in game. In fact please give suggestions as I want this mod to be for everyone.  Ask Negro of Serbia.   I won't bite.  Most of the time...
New Landmass: Pretty much complete. I have had sea travel before the "Incident." This will be redone before the new release.
New Claimants: 20%. It has been started but is on hold until I get in touch with Jubal.

THE INTREPID TEAM:
Phoenixguard09: General: Scripting and implementing other people's awesome work.
Dia151: Standard Bearer: Banner maker and general, all-round art man.
Negro of Serbia: Weaponsmith: Ideas man, modeller, damn good at everything.
Uhtred Ragnarson: Loremaster: Writer who's work will be included in later releases.
Zimke Zvoljni: Armourer: Main modeller and texturer.
Rigadoon: Blacksmith: Modeller.
Demonwolf: Cartographer: The awesome new map.

CREDIT'S LIST:
Talak for his weapons.
Shredzorz for the 15th Century Weapons OSP.
The Europe 1200 team for kindly allowing me to use their M&B 1.011 resources.
Dariel for his Indian equipment.
Wanderer949 for the MoreHorse Pack.
Thick 1988 for his Warband Item Variants.
Yamabusi for his Highlander Pack.
Walzou and Shagrath for their Samurai stuff.
Havoc for his bow textures.
Everyone who posted on the [Tutorial] Creating a Faction Thread.  That was a massive help.  Here's a link for whoever is interested.
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,128647.0.html
TaleWorlds for creating such an awesome game
My sister for creative support
Jubal and everyone on Exilian.

RELEASES:

http://www.mbrepository.com/file.php?id=2449

Ok the first release is but a beta.  Or an alpha.  As far as I know they're just assigned arbitrarily.  A little buggy and the single player's a bit off.  (Only Lyonesse have the right troops and apparently all the new places are screwed)  But at least you'll be able to see the map and play multiplayer.  And see the new items of course.

Stories and AARs / Celts vs Rome
« on: January 20, 2011, 11:31:56 AM »
Hey everyone.  I've just been messing around with the Celts and the Eastern Empire in BI.  So naturally an AAR of a Custom Battle between a Celtic army and two Eastern Empire forces would be the perfect place to show off my stuff.   (BTW the enemy armies are  upgraded but not quite to the same extent as mine.  After looking at it, I probably went a little over the top.)  :D

First up, the disposition of the mighty Celtic army.

Next the mighty archers of the Celts.  (I added them.)

These are the Hounds of Culann.  (Lombard Beserker models with my texture)

The Pictish Spearmen in a slightly irregular phalanx.  (Just a shieldwall cause I was sick of the schiltrom.  I really don't like the schiltrom formation.)

The imposing line up of the Eastern Roman Empire forces.

Greco-Roman Hoplites.  (Another new addition to Eastern Roman forces)

Greco-Roman Pezhetairoi.  (Notice the leopard skin trim.)

The Eastern Roman Cataphracts and Clibinarii.  Unfortunately on the other side of the field to the Celtic Spearmen.

The Briton Huntsmen fire...

At the East Roman Archers...

And completely smash them.

The Hounds of Culann start to whip themselves into a killing frenzy.

The Cataphracts are getting close to my archers...

So the start shooting.

The Hounds of Culann start to cleave through the Roman formations.

Even split apart, the Hounds wreak havoc among the Equite and Limitanei.

They leave a trail of destruction.

Absolutely out of control, the Hounds plow recklessly into the Pezhetairoi.

Having spread across the battlefield, the Hounds start to slay all that moves.

One of the enemy generals is getting close with his retinue of Cataphracts.  The Noble Cavalry prepare to charge.

The Pictish Spearwall sees of the Limitanei...

And the Greco-Roman Hoplites.

The Hounds are probably in a bad position but they don't care.

The Roman forces prepare for another charge.

The Hounds are surrounded.

The Noble Cavalry's charge hits home.  And kills one of the enemy generals.

They proceed to run down the Cataphracts.

The Gallowglasses hit home...

And hurl abuse at the foe until they run away.

Eastern Archers are run down by the Noble cavalry.

Even completely surrounded by Romans the Hounds keep swinging.

The Roman forces accosting the Hounds are split thanks to the Gallowglasses in their rear.

The Gallowglasses smash into the Limitanei and suddenly the Roman army breaks.

This was too cool not to put in.  Looks like he threw him.

And that's it.  Not the fairest battle.  But a lot of fun.  :D

Stories and AARs / Lord Balian Black-Bear
« on: January 20, 2011, 10:23:30 AM »
Hi everyone this is just something small I did.  My attempts at winning the game with just 60 Swadian Knights.  This is with Jimbob's Extended Factions mod, something I've been doing for the past couple of months, and if Jubal approves, will soon have a sub-board here.

Lord Balian, called the Black-Bear for his distinctive heraldry, was the son of a well-to-do Swadian Baron, Lord Melquart.  Alas Lord Melquart fell in battle with the perfidious Khergits on the morning of the 12th of March 1257.  The Lord's funeral was held in the city of Suno on the 27th.  After the funeral, Lord Balian, inheritor of Lord Melquart's ancestral lands, set out with only his personal guard to bring ruin upon his father's killers.

After travelling for many days, he finally arrived before the walls of Narra.  Not expecting any aid and with odds of 5-1 against him, Lord Balian prepared himself for a long siege.  Within three days, banners had been spied on the horizon.

All of Swadia had emptied as Emperor Harlaus himself led a crusade to take Narra.  Upon finding the siege equipment completed, the Emperor immediately led an assault on the walls.

Lord Balian himself was in the front rank of the charge, eager to shed Khergit blood.

The Crossbowmen lined up below the battlements, firing at any Khergit foolish enough to show its filthy face.

Lord Balian was one of the first men up the ladder and immediately set to cleaving Khergits apart with his father's Greatsword.

Soon the rush of battle seperated Balian from the fray.  Balian sat back, and took pleasure in the scene of death and devastation that took place around him.

The day was won by the Swadians, but Balian's quest continued.

This is my first attempt at writing an AAR, so it may not be all that good.  What do you think?

EDIT* That's weird, Imageshack seems to have cropped my pics.

Tabletop Games - The Game Room / New Armies
« on: January 19, 2011, 10:02:24 AM »
Just a thread to post ideas or new Warhammer armies.  Either an army that exists in background or something completely your own.

Personally I'd like to see a proper Kislev army, not the Allies thing they're getting but a proper army book.

So what would everyone else like to see?

Stories and AARs / Hibernia's Last Ridaire's
« on: January 13, 2011, 09:58:52 PM »
Hi guys, this a story I wrote tonight for a competition.  Just thought you guys might be interested.

DISCLAIMER* I'm aware that I've probably made loads of big mistakes as far as the period goes, but they make the story interesting.  Like for instance Ridires wearing lamellar.  Probably never happened.  But at least the Gaelic is accurate.  But then again I'm still learning and who's to say that they spoke Irish Gaelic back then anyway.

The twelve Hiberno/Roman auxiliaries rode out an hour after dawn, on a cold, dark, British morning.  Small droplets of rain splattered against the Ridaire’s lamellar cuirasses, as Caradoc O’Bannain led his men through the gates of Aballava Fort, situated along Hadrian’s Wall.  His men had been defending Roman interests in Briton for fifteen years, and now, their time was almost done.  One more mission kept the men from returning home, across the Eirish Sea and back to Hibernia.  After so many decades of war on this most northern frontier, the Roman Empire had declared their orders to abandon the colonies in Britannia.  The Pict and Briton Celtic tribes had always resisted Roman rule.  While south of Hadrian’s Wall was civilised, north was untamed and dangerous.  And that was exactly where Caradoc and his men had to go.

Their mission was to abduct the Roman dignitary, Manius Numiceus who was held prisoner by the Celts.  This would take Caradoc’s Ridaires past Hadrian’s Wall and deep into Celt territory.  However in doing so, they would earn their discharge and would be free to return west, to Hibernia.

Shaking off is melancholy thoughts, Caradoc called for his scouts, the brothers Aileann and Artagan.  The two rode forward to the head of the company, and Caradoc marvelled at them.  In appearance and temperament, the two men were as different as night and day.  And yet never once had they quarrelled, to Caradoc’s knowledge at least.  “Ní mór dúinn a fhios agat cá bhfuil an fear seo. Faigh air dom.” “We need to know where this man is.  Find him for me.”  With a nod from Artagan, the two set off to track down their quarry like two arrows let loose from a bow.

After fifteen years of fighting side by side with his men, Caradoc knew the brothers wouldn’t let him down.  Within twenty minutes they had returned.  Aileann rode straight to Caradoc, “Fuair muid an turas.” “We found the trail.” “Marcaigh dom! Agus lig gach fear a fhios anseo fanann an tsaoirse sin dó in Éirinn!” "Riders to me! And let every man here knows that freedom waits for him in Hibernia!"

Caradoc’s Ridaires pushed their steeds to the limit that day, not halting their pursuit for respite or nourishment.  The hoof beats of Eirish Hobit horses reverberated through valley, forest and over plains.  At last they came upon a ridge, where Aileann and Artagan had halted.  “Bhreathnaíonn sé an champa, captaen.” “It overlooks the camp, Captain.”

The Celt camp was set up in no particular order, except that the ceannaire’s tent was set up, predictably in the centre of the camp and was recognisable by the fact that it was a third larger than all the others and didn’t have any noticeable holes in it.  Eadan took a long look at the encampment.  “Mar, sin cén chaoi linn a fháil i ann?”  “So, how do we get in there?”

The stray wisps of cloud lay strewn across the sky as if by the hand of an angry god, slightly obscured the moon’s pale shine.  The Ridaires made their move.  Together, they took up their bows and rode over the ridge, scanning the horizon for potential targets.  The Celt picket line didn’t even see what was coming as two arrows flashed out of the night and took the sentries on either side of Caradoc’s chosen breakthrough point in the chest.  Without a break in momentum the Ridaires continued their forward rush and started to scour the camp itself for the prisoner.

That was what I entered for the comp.  What do you think?  I know the story's still going but I had a 500 word limit and even without the Gaelic bits I was still 20ish word over.  I'll probably do more if anyone wants.  And even if they don't. :D

Warhammer; Total War / Custom Battle Maps
« on: January 10, 2011, 08:47:25 AM »
Rejoice!  For in accordance to Jubal's wishes here is a list which will be updated next time I'm on this computer, of the Custom Battle maps that work to varying degrees and those that cause your entire glorious army to drown.  Without further ado, here is the list.

As far as I can tell, all the maps up until British Grasslands are unchanged.  I only checked a few of the ones with crosses and Rome and Ancrya for the pre-built sieges, but I didn't run into any problems.

MAPS THAT WILL KILL YOUR ARMY:
British Grasslands
Gallic Countryside
Germanic Forest
Capaddoccian Forest
Sierra Nevada
Scottish Highlands
African Coast
Greek Shore
River Jordan

MAPS THAT ARE UNCHANGED:
Italian Lowlands
Pontic Peaks
Armenian Mountains
(I'm not entirely sure they're the same as they used to be but they are pretty close.)

MAPS THAT ARE PLAYABLE BUT DON'T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THEY USED TO:
Sahara Desert -> Now more of a Sahara Heathland.  It was a lot like the Italian Lowlands.
Libyan Plains -> Very dense forest.
Arabian Dunes -> Also very dense forest.
Nordic Woodland -> No longer has woodland.  More like steppes.
Pripet Marshes -> Now forested.
Alpine Valley -> Desert and hilly.
Tuscan Bay -> Has no bay.
Moon River -> No river, clearing between two clumps of forest.
Nile Bridge -> Very hilly no vegetation.  Very rocky.

This list is complete to the best of my knowledge.  Hope it helps.
Cheers,
