1. Table covering! Srsly. A nice tablecloth goes a long way. Same goes for putting things on available walls.
2. Signs should be laminated, at least. You can put them in frames as a cheap option (ask charity shops if they have any hanging around, no pun intended)
3. Basic stuff out the way, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CARDS. If you're promoting Exilian, you need Exilian cards. To remind people who you are after the event.
4. BOWL OF SWEETS. People will actually come over for the sweets alone, then feel bad and speak to you. I've met some GREAT people this way.
5. Show people who we are! Maybe make some portfolios of Exilians who would be happy to be involved, and are successful on the platform?

ExiliCon 2016 / The Cultural Exchange Needs YOU!
« on: October 18, 2016, 11:34:46 AM »
Hey guys,

Due to other plans falling through, I'm left with a table at Exilicon and nothing to present on it. To that end, I'd like to do an exchange table/take what you like for donations table.

I'm going to bring books, mystery parcels, and a few other things.

If any of you guys have anything you'd like to bring for the table - books, CDs, games, hand-written poetry, whatever, then let me know! The only criteria is that it must be fairly small (so someone can carry it home), and you're happy to give it away and receive only something else from the table in exchange (you are, of course, welcome to donate!)

Any questions, let me know :)

- Game now prevents you naming your character "BACK" or "SAVES" as either of those would cause problems.

I am probably late to the party on this one, but if you stored all of your keywords in an array (or whatever the more efficient data storage doodle in Python is) couldn't you just check whatever the player entered against that list? Just seems like it'd save you issues down the line.

Being the INCREDIBLY SMART HUMAN I am, it never occurred to me to actually look in the code-base. I actually facepalmed when reading that message and it became apparent to me that I could've done this research myself.

But now you've done it for me, SotK, I guess I'm good :P

(I am probably gonna update the documentation, as I work through this project, for my own sanity if nothing else. So @Jubal - the documentation will have to go to their Github. Any tutorials I decide to write can come here though!)

It's weird that it gets the correct information after changing the res, but not straight away. Have you tried a poke about in Stack Overflow? Someone might've already sorted it :D

@Jubal: I was about to be all "lol whut", but then I remembered I had/have a childhood/residual fear of vacuum cleaners. So y'know, glass houses.

@Pent: I am definitely down with nonsense tattoos.

I'm a dev and I'm here to chatter. Or, more accurately, complain.

I discovered Godot recently, and as free (open source MIT licence) products go, it's amazing. Like Unity, only actually optimised properly and way more extensible. I do, however, find one major issue with it:

The documentation is nearly non-existent.

For example: it tells me I can use an object of type ImmediateGeometry to represent changing, simple geometrics in a 3D game world. So I drag one in and begin setting it up in the code.

NONE of the methods for ImmediateGeometry are documented.

It has a 'begin' method, which I assume I'll need to call first, though nothing tells me this is so. 'Begin' takes a primitive of type 'int' and a texture of type 'Texture'.

Now, I'm a fairly smart lady and a pretty good programmer. I know what a primitive is, in relation to graphics, and I obviously know what an int type is. But there is literally NO WAY for me to figure out what that int is meant to be. Number of sides? Number of points? WHO KNOWS*.

*being a smart lady, I assumed it would be a static constant in another file, which would tell the ImmediateGeometry what it should be in this instance. I was right, as far as I can tell from other people's code examples, but I still can't find a complete list of what those constants are or what they mean.

SO FRUSTRATED.

Definitely sounds like an issue with TKInter not receiving the correct display information from Windows 10... which wouldn't be the first time Win10 has screwed up something like that, in my personal experience :P

Penty,

My main issues with tattoos in languages you don't speak - particularly non-Roman-alphabet ones (harder to infer meaning) - is the risk of poor translation. Even if you get someone to translate it for you, you can never be sure they've not deliberately done it wrong... (this is assuming you don't speak/read Japanese - if you're confident enough to check a translation, that's a whole other story)

As for the Judo-club-logo-thing, ultimately it's your body and your decision, but it might be kinda armadilloty to get it if the guy is strictly anti-tattoo.

I would stuff ALL of the money into a carrier pigeon's envelope for access to that many 80s adventure games.

I thought it might be jogging with or in yoghurt, but this is so much better! :D

Jogging IN yoghurt would significantly up the resistance, so it'd probably be a better workout.

Mostly I'm just doing a yoga/Pilates mix at the moment, to work on upper body strength - solely for the purposes of shooting straighter. Yay for having goals, I guess.

After some Googling, I discovered homeopathic Berlin Wall can be used to treat separation anxiety.

I am still laughing about this fact days later.

So I just rediscovered this thread and realised that Exilicon 2016 is THIS YEAR?? D:

Time to get making, I suppose.

I'm all for people taking things that make them feel better, and it's not my job to tell people how to spend their money, but then there's this: https://www.helios.co.uk/shop/berlin-wall

I doubt we'll become completely obsolete - the AIs will probably decide that humans are fun things to have around the place.

Actually, they've already stated that this is their intention, to keep us in a "people zoo".
