This week is a big one for anally retentive University Professors and the Global Language Monitor has announced that the Millionth English word has been officially confirmed.

The word in question is "Web 2.0", beating Jai ho, N00b and slumdog. Jai ho and slumdog are words that have started being used due to the film Slumdog Millionaire, and N00b comes from the gaming community.

For a word to be declared a new one, it has to have been coined on the internet 25,000 times or more, then the GLM recognises it as a new word. Websites not covered are Games websites and Adult websites for obvious reasons.

Son of the King

Hmm Web 2.0. I'd have preferred being able to tell people to go look n00b up in a dictionary.

To be honest, it takes attention away from the fact that WHO are about to declare a Swine Flu Pandemic.
