Murray's defeat was inevitable, if a little bit sad. I'm more concerned that I won't have Grand Slam statistics to fill my never-ending summer days with... I assume I'm not the only person who watches tennis for this reason? Or does a Year of Hell (read: 'a year of a science degree') just do this to you?

I wouldn't go for inevitable - he played incredibly good tennis, and I'm still hopeful he will at some stage win a Slam. Federer was utterly amazing though, playing at least as well as he was doing in his prime years.

I think this is what I mean by 'inevitable' - once I saw how Federer was playing, I didn't see any other outcome (and Murray is not well-known for his gracious handling of pressure on the big stage). But I don't think winning a Slam is out of his reach, once he gets a handle on things.
