Lady Grey

All things Marvel movie-related, release dates, character discussions etc. etc. here!

I realise that the MCU will probably need more than a very general thread. :P

Tom

I want to ask, what did everyone think of the first Thor movie? I found it a bit flat tbh but maybe I need to rewatch it as the first time I was severely sleep deprived. :/

Lady Grey

The Thor movies are my favourite in the MCU :)

I loved it personally :) I like how it has a sort of fantasy element to it.
I really liked Thor: The Dark World as well, though I seem to remember hearing a load of bad things about it around the time it came out?

Lady Grey

I know the watching-movies-sleep-deprived feeling as well - I went to the cinema to see Avengers when it came out one day after college - and fell asleep :/

But I do love the movie!

I'm a pretty big fan of the original Blade. Other than that I've only seen the Spiderguy films. More favourable towards the reboot, although I've only seen the first one so far. I intend to watch the X-Men series at some point.

Thor Movies are unfortunately known as a weak spot in the MCU.
This is my personal best to worst but still OK list: (Haven't seen the Incredible Hulk)

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 10/10
1 (tied). Guardians of the Galaxy -10/10
3. The Avengers 9/10
4.Iron Man 8.5/10
5.Iron Man 3 7.5/10
6. Thor: The Dark World 6.5 / 10
7. Thor 6/10
8. Iron Man 2 6/10
9. Captain America: The First Avenger. 5.5/10

I think all my choices are slightly tinted by my reading of the comics but hey.

Also, do not get me started on the X-Men movies. I consider this fair warning.

Spiderman 1 was great imo. I thought Toby was great as the hero, I like that spiderman wasn't played by someone who in no way in hell could look like a nerd. Ruffalo has this problem as Banner.
X-Men 2 was amazing. Average casting, great story, amazing use of the universe.
Iron man 1 was good, great casting, great action but kind of weak storyline.
Avengers 1 was great, not seen 2 yet.
Not seen GotG which I would like to at some point.
Cap movies are the worst imo. 1 was contrived and 2 was non nonsensical and predictable.
I liked Thor 1 but found 2 really forgettable, Thor smash more giants? Loki is a dick again?
Fantastic 4 movies I thought were about average, 2 was the better one imo. Fewer lines like 'Chem 1:01'.
Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the Comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

You... you don't like Cap 2?
Think youre one of the, I don't know, 1.5 people?

The problem I have is that I worry watching some of the films (like Captain America: The Winter Soldier) will trigger me (I really can't watch some types of violence D: )

Lady Grey

Violence-wise, Thor, Thor: The Dark World are pretty tame.

I've not seen Guardians yet, but I've been warned of one scene that might trigger me, so I was waiting for DVD release.

CG: Hahaha :D No, I've had panic attacks before (having said that, this was watching GoT type things) but it's pretty awful :(

Lady Grey

Though the person who warned me about Guardians may be wrong, it could well be fine (i.e. I was initially told Thor: The Dark World would be awful for me, and that was totally fine.)

Apart from the hugely sad part D,:

I liked it I guess, but it didn't live up to the name and come on, how predictable was it? Was there any doubt as to who the winter soldier would be? Or that a certain character made it to the credits or that the organisation wouldn't be taken over completely and turned against the avengers in the upcoming movie. Which would have been cool. Plus they need Beast from X-men as the new Avengers leader as he was in comics...Just because I like beast and it contains the part of the storyline that turns him blue and claw-ey.

Plus they pushed his good guy at all costs persona to a cliche'd level. It was okay, just nowhere near as good as others.

Well, you must be part of a not very vocal minority as most consider it one of the best.

Also beast film rights are owned by Fox :p
