Vocal Range

I found this and thought it was really interesting. It's a list of some top artists and their recorded vocal range. I get that the list is in no way comprehensive but still interesting. Thoughts from musical people would be great if you got the time. I just play drums so I have no musical talent :P

I don't like how they include all the modern pop singers since their voice goes through a computer to enhance it.

Right around the 3:20 minute mark. :o

I have a decent top end for a baritone, but I can't quite get the depth of a really good bass.

I think tone quality is generally much more important than range - no point in being able to go high if you sound like a strangled chicken up there, though really high or really low voices are kind of a party trick in themselves.

I'm 100% bass, thought I agree with sir-Jubal, quality is much more important range. When applying for HS vocal classes, I bottomed out the grand piano my instructor had us use. He was floored. :P

You bottomed out a grand piano? That is bloody impressive.

Hmmm, last time I tested my range, it was about 3 and a half octaves... (I'm a soprano)
But on the other hand, I have no problem singing songs by Christina or Mariah... :/

But, like Jubal said, quality is super important.
And it's no good having a wonderful range if you're singing a song on one of the breaks in your voice and it sounds forced :p

I have the vocal range of a strangled cat.

Please do not strangle your cats to find out what range that is. At the very least, your eardrums will never recover (and the cat will never quite be the same)

My vocal range is currently wholly comprised of yawning.

I don't think I've ever lost it so many times in one video. Thanks Jubal.  ;D
