It turns out that NORTH was not a real direction at all! It was a RED HERRING.

The RED HERRING is very large and consumes your TRIREME. You settle down in its gut to a short and miserable life of being slowly DIGESTED. You at least get the satisfaction of causing it a degree of stomachache.
