Exercise is hard
« on: January 16, 2017, 11:49:20 PM »
Figured I'd post this here. What do you guys actually do to exercise? It's been something I've been thinking about recently as I suspect my lifestyle is overly sedentary, so I'm trying to do bits of light indoor exercise to cut up time spent on desk-work. My main trouble at the moment is that my sinus problems and a very persistent cold don't work well with this aim - I collapse in a pile of coughing blaargh pretty easily. I'm going to try and keep at least doing a set of press-ups or something as a minimum each day to try and keep myself doing *something* though.

I can't stand to do typical exercises; I'd rather do some form of physical work that way I feel like something was accomplished.

Me too, but that's way harder when in the city. When I'm back in Norfolk for patches there's plenty of outdoor work to do, here not so much. :/

I used to do at least 20 pushups and situps every night before bed, and then a run around the block every morning. I would try to go a little further every day. I'm too busy now to do it every day, but I try to do things like that as often as I can.

Also, getting a heavy stick and smashing the armadillo out of a tree or something is good for lean muscle mass in your arms and it is really cathartic.

I picked big trees. They can handle it.

I imagine they flinch whenever I walk by.

I'm with CG, I'd just feel mean attacking trees, trees are my friends... I used to be quite good at doing press-ups a few years ago when I did judo and I can still labour through a set of thirty or so, it's probably the more aerobic exercise I'm lacking worse though.

Do judo again. Or wrestling. Or whatever.
Skipping rope is very good for cardio, easy to change the pace to suit how you're feeling too. I usually do circuits of the usual bodyweight exercises and burpees with skipping in between circuits for conditioning. Haven't done for probably two months bow though, am very unfit.

CG: I think I'll pass on opening that particular tin.

Penty: I don't know where to do judo round here that's good and enjoyable. I've kept finding that places where people Do Sports, certainly round universities, are always far too serious/demanding for me to find them enjoyable or demand way more hours per week than I can do :/ Skipping rope may be a good shout tho.

When I skip rope I actually skip the rope and don't skip rope.

I walk most places (depending on the weather - if it's horrible I'd rather not). We also try to go on reasonably long walks when we can. I used to go to dance classes and go to the gym/swimming but my anxiety got the better of me.
Not really 'exercise' but I have tried a bit of yoga at home. There's a lot of tutorials on YouTube. I find it makes me really sleepy though.
