Hey! I'm a solo developer working on a medieval action game (HEUSS!)
inspired by One Finger Death Punch.

I started development about 7 months ago on youtube where I show the whole process of creation in detailed devlogs.

I try to make them as entertaining and educationnal as possible!

I go pretty in depth in all aspects of video game development like game design, code implementation, 3D modelling, animations, etc..

My goal with this youtube channel is to record the evolution of my project until it gets released early next year.

So, if that sounds like something that would interest you, come get a look!

Here's my latest devlog:

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

PS: I'll be updating this thread everytime I release a new devlog, so keep on the lookout!

Hello, welcome to Exilian! :) How did you find us, out of interest?

I watched through a couple of the videos (the one you posted here and the first devlog one), they're very well put together - the relatively robotic consistency of the narrator tone sometimes makes it less easy for my brain to follow things, but the videos are short enough that it's manageable. It looks a very fun concept and I look forward to seeing how it develops!  :)
The duke, the wanderer, the philosopher, the mariner, the warrior, the strategist, the storyteller, the wizard, the wayfarer...

Thx man! I found this forum by searching where I could post my devlogs, there was another dev that name dropped exilian in a post on reddit, so I took the bait!;)
Also, thx for the feedback!
Small question... in the latest vid, where did you feel the narrator's tone got in the way the most?

Jubal

Well, welcome! :) And yeah, we've got a few ongoing medieval-y projects (my own ongoing project is an RPG based on medieval manuscript images, and we've got our forum moderator who's working on a jousting game) so this fits in pretty well, and we do try and promote things from here on our various social medias and suchlike as well - do have a poke around and if you need anything, you're welcome to give me a shout (I'm currently in charge/everything around here is my fault :) )

I think the voice tone thing is most noticeable in the areas where I'd expect vocal inflections most - so rhetorical questions, for example, which are harder to register without the expected vocal inflections that go with them? And the gaps between words feel a bit sharp which can drag on my brain after a few minutes. However, I should say that this is quite minor and is counterbalanced by the fact that the general style of the videos is very visually effective and nicely logically fitted together, it's all very easy to follow in terms of the general style and format of the presentation.

Thx again for the feedback ;)
I must say this forum is pretty cozy...  I quite like the oldschool vibes around here!

Tusky

Really nice looking game - fast paced and action packed :) Will definitely give it a go!

I also like the style of your dev logs - a good "glimpse behind the magicians cloth" in terms of how you do things. I see what Jubal was talking about with the question inflections ("But what exactly is a material you might ask." 2.43), but I agree it's only a very tiny thing and does not take away from the good content.

Any more of this yet?

Also, I PMed you a link to the beta of my game, just finally got round to doing a new build :)
The duke, the wanderer, the philosopher, the mariner, the warrior, the strategist, the storyteller, the wizard, the wayfarer...

It's coming in the next 2 weeks! I was kinda off the grid in the past month to reformat how I deliver my content (srry for the radio silence). I'll be doing weekly devlogs from now on to keep my audience more engaged. Keep on the look out in the next few days! Oh and Thx for the beta link! I'll dive into it once I release my next vid!

Jubal

Re-sent the beta link due to the expiry :) And no probs, my dev activity is often like an intense week once every 2-3 months and then a long emptiness before more occurs.

It's been a while, but I just released my eighth devlog!

From now on, i'll be uploading a new devlog every week on mondays - so expect more content in the future!

In this episode, I sketch the foundation of my new 2D environment.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Stay on the lookout for more devlogs in the future!

Jubal

Sorry for taking about a week to reply - really liked this, it's looking good and it's all laid out very clearly & effectively as ever :) I'm looking forward to seeing how the background looks when combined with the game!

Will the game eventually have more medieval-ised person models or will those keep with that stick figure style?
The duke, the wanderer, the philosopher, the mariner, the warrior, the strategist, the storyteller, the wizard, the wayfarer...

Manic Arts

No worries ;) and yes, later in development I'll update the models - the current ones are just place holder.

Just released my ninth devlog!

In this episode, I add colors to my new 2D environment.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Stay on the lookout for more devlogs in the future!

Nice, I like the style. Puts me in mind of banner saga a little bit
