The Exilian Romantasy Blurb Generator
By Jubal

This is not so much an article as a generator: I decided that with the advent of all the LLM slop I was actually somewhat wistful for the days of JavaScript generators - the sort of thing where you hit a button and it actually random-numbered through a bunch of possibilities that had been curated by an actual person. Is the result any better or worse than GPT? That's probably for you to decide. It's certainly less damaging to the environment.

And the topic of this generator? Well, it's been a running joke with some Exilian friends that there really are a lot of romance fantasy books with titles in the form "An X of Y and Z" these days. So many so, in fact, that one could almost... get the titles and blurbs to write themselves? As such, behold the EXILIAN ROMANTASY BLURB GENERATOR, your one stop engine for creating fantasy romance plot ideas.

Do post your favourites below and let us know if this created anything useful for you!

Without further ado, all that remains is for you to push the button and...

The duke, the wanderer, the philosopher, the mariner, the warrior, the strategist, the storyteller, the wizard, the wayfarer...

I've generated a bunch of these now and I don't think any of them has beaten the first in terms of "books I would actually honestly give a go":

"Silver, a low-born blacksmith's daughter, lives a simple life: she is small, not a beauty, and works hard to scrape together enough to live on. At least, until she discovers a secret she never could have imagined. Drawn into the mysterious Otherworld of Eyes, what seems a brilliant chance of escape at first quickly turns into a fight for her very survival.

Coming to the attention of the valiant master smith, Aral Avadore, she finds her new life suddenly beset by emotion as well as adventure and intrigue. But the magic is draining out of the Otherworld of Eyes - and it may be that Silver is the only one who can stop it.

What might the price be of saving the Otherworld? And what role do her allies Swordsong and Aral have to play - for the world, and for Silver herself?"

Love interest who shares an area of expertise with the main character? Genuinely intriguingly named magical land? Do I need to write this now?

Also, the next one I generated had a love interest called "Mabon" and I groan and applaud your ability to convincingly spoof the genre by including Randomly Chosen Names From Welsh Literature.

If you do write it, do let me know! :) And yes, that is one of the better fantasy land names it's come up with!

In fairness I cast a wide net: the list of Fantasy Man Names I wrote for the generator also includes "Gladius", and "Caspian", and perhaps most amusingly "Pyrex".

QuoteA Constellation of Charms and Thorns

It seems a normal day for Owl-eye, a poor maid, - but when she finds a ruin in the woods, it contains a magical door and a secret so powerful it changes her life entirely. She enters the Kingdom of Potions, a land of magical forests, clouded mountains... and a strange feeling of familiarity. Her ability to sense and speak to the faeries that roam the Kingdom gives her strength in this new place. She does not yet know, though, from where her power comes.

The political circles of the Kingdom mean that she needs allies - and in Fatehand Vecetii and the inscrutable Vertex Paradolanii she finds them, but risks losing her heart. Caught between her feelings for Fatehand and Vertex, whose letters to her grow increasingly ardent, she is trapped in a web of emotions, intrigue - and lies. Amid sorcerous visions and portents of a looming darkness, Owl-eye must find out who she really is - and decide what matters most to her.

What might the price be of saving the Kingdom? And what role do her allies Vertex and Fatehand have to play - for the world, and for Owl-eye herself?

This is like 99% of YA romantasy plots/blurbs of the last five years merged into one, lol. I usually don't read that genre so my expertise ends there, but I think this blurb is a good summary :-D

Such a delightful generator! I really miss fantasy generators in this vein, though this is the best one I can remember. Each one I've generated sounds like a real romantasy blurb XD You absolutely nailed it.

I may make more of these if people like them! I've been thinking about doing a fantasy tavern generator for a while because I already have all the tavern name element lists from The Exile Princes. I'm sure one could also do 19th century novels, or fantasy creation myths, etc...
