Perhaps, but the invasion of Iraq was a massive mistake for him to make. Afghanistan is still a grey area, since the reasons for invading were fairly justifiable at the time, but now a lot of people are wondering whether it's worth us being there.

What do you think of the withdrawal of all US troops from Iraq comrage?

Also, I don't know what Bush's domestic record was like, not having paid too much attention to American home policy during his reign.

It was set up in the agreement with Bush and the new Iraqi government years ago, so Obama is simply following up on Dubya's plan while at the same time making it sound like his idea.

edit: Is there something wrong with ousting a murderous dictator? Saddam should have been taken care of the first time around, W just felt that problem needed fixed, and I'm fine with that.

I get really annoyed by people who say the UK is like a third world country. It isn't. In a third world country, you have no decent roads, no clean water, you live in fear of disease, rape, famine, militia violence and all sorts of nastiness. Last time I checked few people in the UK haven't lived like that for at least 200 years.

Back on topic: I feel getting rid of him was both good and bad. While he was a nasty piece of work, he kept order in Iraq, while the string of democratic governments haven't. When he went, all the various Muslim nutjobs went at each other and almost tipped Iraq into a civil war, because they knew there was much less chance of recrimination.

But by your logic, we should all go and take out Mugabe next. Just because someone is an evil dictator, doesn't mean you have the right to invade their country.

Like I said we should have gotten rid of him the first time around, not that we have obligations for removing every evil dictator.

Jubal

I'd be OK with the idea of removing an evil dictator if there was a solid plan in place to do so. Rumsfeld and co. really, really, REALLY messed up on that side of it. They were just totally unprepared for a) the fact that lots of foreign troops riding around all over someone's country in tanks isn't popular with the locals, b) the fact that actually the war needed an aid budget at least as big as the military one to repair Iraq's devastated economy and keep the country stable, and c) that without local security services there'd be nobody but a very small number of US and UK troops trying to keep order over an entire nation.

I get annoyed with the pope comparing me to a nazi too, I might add.

Even the best laid plans of mice and men go oft awry.

Not that I disagree with what you said, I'm just throwing that out there to remind you.  ;)

Jubal

Yeah, but that's not the case here. The case HERE is that there wasn't a plan in the first place!

Aw hell just go in guns blazin' and see what happens, screw the plans!  B)

Jubal

Yes, you appear to have grasped the invasion zeitgeist effectively.

He is Jubal the modder, Jubal the wayfarer, Jubal the admin. And he has come to me now, at the turning of the tide.
