They're now on season 57, the USA appears to have had a long run... But who will the 45th actor in the iconic role - famous for travelling the world in a jet plane and claiming to have saved humanity - be?
Rumours have also recently surfaced that the show's creators are considering bringing back some of the President's old foes in upcoming series. With the thrilling ending of the Osama plot arc, sources close to the producers indicate that the Russians, recurring enemies from series 33 onwards, could be coming back with a vengeance. Even the Germans - whose dramatic battles against Franklin Roosevelt's classic take on the President role still capture the imagination today - are hinted at being potential future antagonists after the President makes a critical mistake with a highly secretive piece of advanced technology...
