Age of Empires II: Forgotten Empires
« on: September 09, 2013, 01:00:32 PM »

This i have been playing a lot lately, Its just so much fun. If anyone here wants to play you can download a piece of software called GameRanger Which hosts servers for  AOE I, AOE II, The Conquerors expansion and AOE:FE. In this modified version of the game you can play as a number of new races which all have their own unique technologies and special units etc.

The new playable races are: Slavs, Magyar, Inca's, Indians, and Italians.

I believe there have also been fixes to some mechanics in the game, although i don't know which, and i really like the new races models ( especially Slavs, who have an entire new tileset after Feudal age). The unit models have also been nicely done as well. I also think its note worthy how historically correct these new races are, with their unique techs and units.

If anyone here wants to play i think we should, perhaps with some difficulty due to the connection between England and Australia :P . I'd say its worth a shot though.

Actually, I think Slavs and Italians use the same tileset. I can't remember but they look similar at least.

Why would you buy it off steam?
Can't you just download it for free from their website? :|

I dusted out an old copy of AoEII I had and tried to see if I could like it know, since now I do actually read the descriptions and stats to know what I need to build/research/train, and I take losses more gracefully than rage-quitting.

I still am a bad looser. I'm really really bad a economy managing and macro (fighting is for real men! Why should I care about them filthy peasants if they don't have anything to do! THINK FOR YOURSELVES! :P ). Doubt I'll be buying it , sorry man. Besides, I believe there was a mod that brought similar features, but for free.

If anyone wants a game of this add SuperAngryNinjaFish on steam and I'll play you. My preferred game modes are - Random Map, standard resources, 200 pop, start in Dark Age and NO BLOODY PERSIANS. But I'm also flexible feel free to disregard any and all of those.

Or on second thoughts, take Persians, see how that works out for you :P. (Been playing a lot recently and spent over half that time finding out the best ways to counter those damn elephants). Over 700 hp, asston of damage and as armoured as a nuclear bunker....

- Ze German.

They get smashed so bad by cav archers. Also just get some Teutonic knights and take them down. I love Persians for their extra resources at the start and I don't like the Elephants.

Cav archers are too slow at killing them imo, they'll never get though 20-30 of them before your base is destroyed. Plus who would send elephants out without Lc escort for exactly that? :P TKs are faction specific. Onagers and siege onagers are the way to go, scorpions do ok if you're playing as Chinese.
