Humans also respond to pathogen specific motifs, maybe not the same ones as plants do. I don't know very much about plants to be honest.

Humans have the disadvantage of having cells that are much easier to infect, which is kind of countered by immune cells, but it seems to me to be less effective. But I'm biased, plant pathogens are something of an obsession of mine!

But plants have a less efficient method of excretion.

Their only way of getting rid of certain chemicals and all harmful metabolic products is storing them in leaves that fall off.

My guess as to why we have a better immune system would be our lifestyle: we are communal creatures, which probably causes viruses and bacteria to spread more quickly than in other, more sparsely populated creatures. Being in close contact with multiple other people would clearly increase chance of infection. This is well and good, but lots of other animals are also gregarious, so they may also have a better resilience to disease.

I would hazard a guess that we have better immune systems than these creatures as we are not nomadic - we stay in one place. As a result infection in the area may increase, especially before the times of sewage systems, due to viruses being able to stick around and reliably infect another individual.

Plants aren't nomadic, could you imagine a nomadic plant, that'd be scary!

Why use teeth when you can just digest things whole in pitchers of acid? :)

Because you need to chew the people up first before they fit inside the pitcher of acid. :)
