Okay, so to coincide with all the furore in the Ukraine, I thought a discussion on the history of democracy would be interesting.

Is Democracy historically probable? Improbable? Inevitable? What are the factors needed for it?

What do you all think?

Joker would cause further mayhem for the sake of anarchy.

The Comedian would force democracy upon them at watch it fall apart due to resistance against pressure, thus providing the role which he always does: showing a mirror to the ugly face of each noble act.

Captain America would promote the good virtues of democracy while still giving the choice to the respective government.

Chancellor Palpatine would abuse such power entrusted to him and form a galaxy shattering army with which he can enforce his ideals.

Dr. Doom might start heavy resistance against democracy while asserting himself as supreme leader of a small eastern european country.

Personally, I'm more inclined to go with The Comedian on this one. I'm thinking that eventually everyone will have a democratically elected leader, some will have to be put there though instead of one coming forward from the populace. However once we reach the limits of what democracy can achieve, it'll fall almost overnight and what suits him (me) best will happen. Anarchy will topple world leading countries and new borders will be drawn.
Once you realize what a joke everything is, being the Comedian is the only thing that makes sense.

You seen the movie/read the comics Watchmen? If not then yeah, it won't make a whole lot of sense. :P
