Jubal's Indiction Calculator

OK, here's a Thing I Did Today.

For those who don't know: indiction years are a Roman/Byzantine date system that give the year as which place it is in a 15 year cycle. This is a very rudimentary one-file calculator tool to help researchers deal with indiction years by easing conversion between AD years and indictions. If there's any demand I could potentially expand it in future to include conversion of some more different Byzantine dating systems.

FEATURES

  • Type in any year and get the relevant indiction year e.g. 1147 => 9th indiction.
  • Use the IND command to get a list of years between 1 and 1500 AD that correspond to a particular indiction, e.g. IND 9 will list 7, 22, 37, etc up to 1492 to give you a quick at-a-glance list of possibilities for the indiction year on your document.
  • Currently a simple command line interface, may be improved in future if there's demand.
