I found this quite interesting (and the comments are a blast):

Christmas continues. Very sleepy. How is everyone?

I'm at my aunt's. Much meat eaten, much wine drunk. Much resulting sleepies. I can't do any game dev or writing because my laptop is at home and people aren't wanting to play games or do riddles so I'm just flumphed on the sofa.

It's nice to have a day like that sometimes. :)

I just built a carport at my place so I added some gravel inside of it and cleaned up the old carport junk, split some firewood, made a holder for the firewood in the house, cleaned up leaves and bark bits, washed the car... so I'm pretty tired as well now.

Battling through hordes of guests and way too many meals per day. :D

Why do you have many guests? Big family, or are you working someplace?

Just binged through The Last Kingdom. It's pretty badass.

Has anyone else watched it or are familiar with the material? I know Joob has read some of the books.

A small, but largely disorganized family so we've had tons of separate visits instead of one big gathering this year. :P
It felt like a siege.

I've been looking for something to watch, actually.
I'll give it a try today. ;)

I'd definitely recommend the books too - they're nothing hugely fancy in terms of prose style or anything, once you've read one Bernard Cornwell book you've sort of read most of them, but I'm always happy to read them even so - they're just really good straightforwardly played sword-swinging adventure stories, backed up by solid historical research. He's very good at writing battle scenes too; IIRC the sort of close-pressed fights he evokes were a major influence on the devs of M&B for the feel they were aiming for.

(He's also done a high medieval series, the Grail Quest books, which I really like).

I found this quite interesting
So all those times I had pease pudding on toast i was actually reenacting without even knowing it? Sweet.
The last kingdom series is pretty awful in terms of costume design and the battles and generally all of that stuff until iirc halfway through the second season when the quality starts to pick up for some reason. The third season was pretty great.
Books were good too, haven't read the latest ones but from what I remember they do kind of turn into main character vs guest star viking villain of the week so I'm not really tempted to get back into it.
Christmas was good  tiring also.

Oh no he wasn't.
He does recommend the series though, just be warned of great silliness.
