I was thinking that this could be Oromis' armor. Maybe the elves manage to retrieve it from his body and look after it in Elesmera. When they discover a new rider to help them fight Galbatorix they give it to you

nah, magicians (spelled wrong probably) shouldnt have shields, but we can give it to another unit
