Many thanks - it's a lot more legible :)

So I see - though I had to force Firefox to refresh in order to get it displayed.

Caching by browsers can be a pain, for all that it speeds things up.

Is the site's domain not set in the forum software somewhere?

The notification emails only include the URL from /forum/ and leave out the root domain resulting in unclickable links.

Jubal

Huh. Not sure, I'll look into it sometime (though probably not until the weekend at current slow rate of progress)

Hmm... a trawl of the admin menu has turned up Configuration -> Server Settings -> Database and Paths; this contains an entry for "Forum URL", which is currently set to /forum

There's a warning at the top of this page: Be very careful with these settings, as they may render the forum dysfunctional.

The SMF online help repeats the warning, and then says of the "Forum URL" setting:
Forum URL - The URL to your forum's directory, without the trailing slash (/). This URL is used throughout SMF - all dynamically generated URLs (except those with their own settings) are based on this setting.

Since I've not managed to find any admin settings related to notification e-mails at all, I suspect that this setting is being used when e-mails are created. However, it's almost certainly being used in a lot of other more significant places too, and I'm very wary of changing it. So we might just be stuck with this until someone at SMF redesigns the software and setting structure to disentangle the URL used for e-mails from the one used internally.

On that front I have good news. The URL you set is written to http://exilian.co.uk/forum/Settings.php (capitalisation intentional)

Currently that line reads:
$boardurl = '/forum'; # URL to your forum's folder. (without the trailing /!)

I've backed up the Settings.php file and I assume you also have FTP access. If the forum suddenly breaks when the URL is changed just restore the old Settings.php file  :)

From what I can see in the file the forum software itself runs using an absolute filename  ( /home/content/o/l/d/oldmarcus/html/forum ) rather than the board's URL so it shouldn't break even if the domain isn't valid.

I should probably take down the Halloween banner now...
