Wielder of silver knife was prevented by another who obviously did something to anger the would be attacker  
SC had stopped outside Dante house making him either the attacker or aggrivator due to both seeming to have been in the garden it is unclear what role SC was

in conclusion this is confusing me

We dont. It may just be conincidence that Stormcloud chose to kill someone, and that someone decided to kill stormcloud, but a doctor or the like saved Dante.
