Ha. Annoyingly long. You know nothing of annoyingly long flights. :P  :(  :'(

I was talking about an annoyingly long train journey :P
The duke, the wanderer, the philosopher, the mariner, the warrior, the strategist, the storyteller, the wizard, the wayfarer...

My point exactly.

Also no train journey could be annoyingly long for G methinks.

So far my limit seems to be about 30 hours on a single train: Cairns to Brisbane, in Australia, or Chicago to western Arizona. I'm about willing to tolerate one night on a train, but two in succession feels like too much. A week on a single train (e.g. the Trans-Siberian railway) is almost certainly too much - I'd want to have breaks along the way.

Tusky

I was technically away in Cyprus and Fiji since April, but am now back in Blighty for a good while.

And now some forthcoming awayness: Spain for six days, Friday 24th to Wednesday 29th January inclusive. Starting and ending in Madrid, with a four-day circular tour of southwestern Spain by train.

Sounds lovely! Please disregard my suggestion of Winnipeg on the other thread. This sounds far more fun.

And so it begins: I'm now on a train to the airport. Next comes the ineffable joy of airport security, and then a Ryanair flight. In one small ray of hope, the inbound flight whose plane will probably form my flight is shown as expected on time at the moment.

EDIT: The plane left slightly late, but arrived slightly early, and I got to Madrid city centre earlier than expected for my afternoon trip to Toledo. To my disappointment, the turtle pond at Atocha station has been filled in since my last visit, due to people dumping their own unwanted pet turtles and fish in it. So now it's just a big tropical garden.

Further Edit: Toledo is wonderful, and you should all visit it.

Not that i usually announce my long absences, but i am travelling around alot from tomorrow and have no internet while i visit friends to drink/watch the superbowl. Be back sometime late next week.

I've travelled through there a couple of times, but didn't have a chance to stop and form an opinion. No, this was another Toledo, east of the Atlantic, older and probably smaller. I very much enjoyed what I had time to see in 2-3 hours; 2-3 days would be a more reasonable length of stay, or even longer if you're into El Greco and various other artists of the same period.

Jubal

I'm off to Tunis for four nights. Not expecting that this will hugely reduce my activity, but we'll see.
