I'm not sure under what circumstances one would want to check in at a hotel in Thanet nowadays, I must admit...

I have been away, hippyfesting. Twas good. I'm back, but tired and busy.

Glaurung

Well, I'm back. Two planes, many trains, no automobiles whatsoever, and one ferry later, I'm at home again. Normal service (whatever that is!) should now resume.

I have done it: I stayed in a B&B in Ramsgate when returning from Belgium on an inconveniently timed ferry. I've no desire to repeat the experience!

How was the land of Germans?

Oh, and if you could just give me some of your vacation time...

It was good. It contained nice scenery, interesting towns, trains, beer, schnitzel, wurst, sauerkraut, and pastries, all of which I enjoyed. It also contained rain, which I did not enjoy.

I also visited the lands of the Danes, the Swedes and the Czechs. Much the same comments apply to these too. My train from Sweden to Germany crossed the Baltic Sea on a ferry - one of only three places in Europe where this happens now.

Note to moderators: you might want to split my posts out to a new thread somewhere; I suspect I'm dragging this one steadily off-topic.

A moderators (I think I am one anyway) note to Glaurung: Start a travelling thread then.
Also good to hear you enjoyed being away.

Now done - here it is, a shiny new thread all of my very own.

Dear goodness. Pentagathus just gave a sensible, helpful, on-topic piece of moderation advice which he was actually supposed to give as part of his job. I think I might need to lie down.

Also, I'll be away Friday-Monday in Shrewsbury  :)

Aha finally the plan is bearing fruit, we shall drive them into despair and confusion until they all run away to shrewsbury!

Oh dear. I hope I'm not a corrupting influence.

Enjoy Shrewsbury. I think you'll like it: it has an interesting (and highly defensible) natural setting in a big meander of the Severn, and lots of well-preserved medieval buildings.

Someone needs to come visit me. :(
