First, I want to state how many religious wibulnibers have suddenly appeared on HYS and it's sickening.

The idea that God is needed for us to keep our moral compass is preposterous, I'm not a believer, but it doesn't mean I think it's a good idea to murder somebody.

Of course the Pope's message was hypocritical and vitriolic, hopefully our Gov. won't take him seriously, though considering the visit was state funded I worry.

Discuss.

Edit: this comment made me laugh:

"I don`t really see the problem with his visit. Every year the British tax payer hands over MILLIONS to keep the Queen who is after all the head of the Protestant Church. The royal family has been robbing us blind for generations, oppressing the British people and generally making us a laughing stock to the world. Burn the monarchy then you can do what you like with the People - but let`s start at home."

Robbing us blind - maybe, oppressing us? What was the point of the civil war then? Or have I missed something? :P

He is Jubal the modder, Jubal the wayfarer, Jubal the admin. And he has come to me now, at the turning of the tide.

Edit: having read the wiki page on him it seems he was unwilling and managed to get out of active duty with an illness. Still, calling Atheists Nazis is a bit much.

Yeah, especially when Nazis were extreme Christians who hated Atheists.

Jubal

They founded a Reich Church, for heavens' sake.

When I say religious wibulnibers, I mean the worst of the bunch. The ones who think atheists are going to hell in a handcart and will shove their beliefs down your throat to 'save' you.

I am sure you're not one of them. Most religious bods are lovely people. But you get bad eggs in all groups.

Yes, indeed; many of my closest friends (if not most) are Christian, I know a number of Muslims, Buddhists etc too who I get along with just fine. I went to a C of E school myself...

The point at which it wierds me out is when I'm talking to someone who genuinely believes I'm going to burn in hell and that they're going to heaven. Just the idea of someone not caring who I am as a person and still thinking it's just the natural order that for a matter ultimately of belief I should be tortured for eternity... really is quite concerning.

In my experience religion has nothing to do with how nice a person is.
