Did you ever play the really really really early M&B version where undead were going to be a major part of vanilla and King Harlaus (later of Swadia) was some kind of lich?

No I didn't.
I must admit that I had no idea about this... 

But that explains why there are undead resources hidden in M&B. 
Those resources were really helpful, by the way.
