Would anyone be interested in a knockout or round robin chess tournament?

Use this:
http://en.lichess.org/
To play your games, hit "play with a friend" then send 'em the link.

Signups now closed.

PLAYERS
1. Jubal
2. Comrade_General (Withdrawn)
3. Nightangel
4. Marcus
5. Phoenixguard
6. stormcloud
7. Son Of The King
8. Ladyhawk

Everyone needs to play everyone else, so that can happen at any speed and in any order. Once everyone's had all seven games, we'll go to semi-finals for the top four. Also, if it becomes impossible for you to get into the top four you're not obliged to play your remaining games (but you can if you wish of course!).

Points Count:
Jubal - 9
Nightangel - 0
Marcus - 1
Phoenixguard
stormcloud - 1
Son Of The King - 5
Ladyhawk

Who's played who (players should end up with all numbers other than their own):
1 Jubal (3, 4, 7, 6)
2 Ladyhawk
3 Nightangel (1)
4 Marcus (1, 7)
5 Phoenixguard
6 stormcloud (1, 7)
7 Son Of The King (1, 4, 6)

I'd be interested, I like playing chess, even though I suck at it against a half way competent player. :P

Well if you lose in a knockout tourney, you're knocked out. Round robin, you just calculate points.

And yeah, I'd give it a shot. Over some sort of computer version right? Or do you want me to book a return flight to England? :P

Yeah, sadly a computer version, there are lots of programs for it now on 'tinternets.

A round robin we'd play for a certain number of rounds, calculating at 3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss. We could then take the top four and go to semis with 1stv3rd and 2ndv4th. That sound good?

Double elimination are probably my favourite in terms of number of matches/fairness, but round robin is cool if we only have a few contenders.

I'll totally play even though I haven't played chess since childhood

This sounds fun I play from time to time but I've never played any one who's any good.

Sounds like a fun challenge.

It appears that she'd even take a trip to England to be involved Jubal. ;)

So what's the logistics here?

Is there some kind of program we can use or will it be C4 to D4 with diagrams and such.

A program would be nice. Believe it or not, there is an SMF chess mod, but it's for a very outdated version, unfortunately.

Just looking for a P2P chess app.

Edit: Jubal found a site, woo!

Oh, and I'm happy to play anyone tonight if they have the time, until 8pm GMT.
