I always get excommunicated because I go to war when the pope tells me not to.

Yeah it seems to get a point where you have to deal with the excommunication because you've gotten too big

Shall we make some house rules?:
1-We care about the Pope, but not if he's an hipocryte.
2-Make Balanced armies, not full stacks of the same unit.
3-Use Princesses with care, we don't want to lose an early diplomat. Also, we will only marry her if the husband has at least 3 stars of either Command or Management.
4-Don't send 60 years old men at war.

Open to suggestions.

How about an outline of our overall plan? The two Iberian rebel settlements are a good early target. The moors are quite nice to go for too as the pope doesn't get involved. Agreed on the princess, we don't start with a diplomat so she's quite an asset

Yep, Moors are our initial target. But as soon as we drive them out of Iberia, we should focus on Spain. They must not become too powerful!

or we could adopt the portugese policy in my england campaign and take ireland then continuously assault wales

Alliance with France.
Expand realistically.

So rebel settlements, moors out of iberia. North Africa has Timbuktu though which is damn good for trade goods. What's our policy on crusades? I guess we'll play the expansion differently depending on who gets excommunicated/invades us?

Crusades will only be followed if we are in the position to do so and we are not dragged in a bloody war. We might take an expeditionary force on Timbuktu as well.

Last time I played as England there were multiple crusades against London. Needless to say, I assassinated about 10 popes.

I loved that video of the assassin shooting a crossbow against the Pope during mass. Sadly, my assassins always failed to kill him, hitting his hat instead.
