You've piqued my curiosity :) and I've just checked some options on the ÖBB (Austrian Railways) website. Even for today, it's offering Sparschiene ("advance" fares in British terms) at 59 euros, roughly £50; if you look further ahead, it might end up cheaper. It will need a bit of planning, though, to get the best set of connections.

EDIT:
ÖBB link added.
The Man in Seat 61 might also be useful, though he's not so detailed for journeys not starting in the UK. The journeys from Vienna page is not obvious from the front page.

Jubal

That's pretty do-able :) Something to look forward to if I move over there...

If I'm ever in Croatia we'll have to have a game, reading this is making me miss playing! Actually if I'm moving to Vienna (which might well be happening in the next few months) this might be more possible, it looks like I could get the train from Vienna to there for around £100 or so (Glaurung will probably know what's optimal transport wise!)

But yes, definitely put a thread for your blog in the WH section :)

The tricky part is that I'll be leaving soon too...
I'll be staying in Czech republic until June (1.6..2017.), so it could be hard to organize a game, but the good thing is that I'll be staying in České Budějovice, a town very close to the Austrian border (and Vienna). So at least we can finally meet in person. ;)
I still regret the fact that I could not make it when you were visiting Dubrovnik.
But if we somehow manage to find the time, you're welcome to stay at my place and we could organize a few games or perhaps a small tournament at my local club (you could freely use one of my armies or the ones available at the club).

I'm not sure when I'm moving yet - could be as soon as March or as far away as October (if it even happens at all, that's dependent on whether the Austrians can pay me). And if I do move I'll potentially be there for three years, so there'll be plenty of time to work something out!

What are you doing in the Czech lands? :)

That actually sounds great Jubal. That potentially gives us a lot of time to organize something.

Oh, I'm going on an Erasmus+ traineeship. ;)
I'll be staying there for a few months.

Ooh, fun, hope you enjoy it! :)

I'm doing one funding application this week, it's very stressful and I don't know if I'll get it finished on time :(

I wish there was more time in a day or that the social convention of a day was increased at least D:

Nah I like sleeping. Less time in the day!

Jubal

But more time in the formal day could just mean more time in bed.

Nah, don't sleep during the day. Sleep at night. Human, not rodent.

Jubal

I think the differing definitions of day may be an issue here...

Human, not rodent.
Or possibly biologist, not mathematician or computer scientist.

Jubal

As a historian, all I can confirm about time is that it's no longer the thirteenth century and there are lots of strange shiny gadgets everywhere and not enough epic poems.
