I wouldn't be surprised if it was set in the WWI-WWII era. Despite the endless amount of games in this period, the AoE series could possibly pull it off quite well.

Ensemble Studios, the guys who made the AoE games. Microsoft decided they weren't worth it. Instead we have Age of Empires Online, which looks... odd.

Looked at it on Google again today and it looks like the rumors were true. Same with Halo 4. Trailer released be E3.
