Conference done! And it went vaguely OK, I think, got a couple of bits of good feedback. I'm still not sure how intellectually tight I think it was, but I managed to at least deliver it coherently.

Pumpkins are more or less fruit anyway! As to why it's a wasteland, partly the fact that it seems to be uncultivated/uninhabited and have mini zombie things roaming around it, I guess? Also possibly the fact that I've been sleep deprived all week and am not selecting words accurately any more.

Yeah, but there's quite a lot of less famous literature that isn't translated (and it's hell in my academic field, where most papers are written in the author's native language and never translated).

I agree though that knowing the culture is more important than the language (I really would like to know more eastern European folklore).

It's been pretty nice here.

Had a post-conference barbeque last night at which I ate and drank a lot (certainly by my standards and considering my low alcohol tolerance!)

I'm thinking I'll be going for pasta tonight, something simple given how absurdly tired I am.

Another small tweak - I noticed that the box allowing members to display their Exilian party affiliation had "Independent" misspelt and excluded the PP, so I've fixed those things.
